When I take a moment to reflect on what led me to be the person I am today, the road to success in all of my accomplishments began at Beacon Academy. I am a member of the founding class of 2006, and the profound impact Beacon Academy has is truly 14 months that last a lifetime.
Beacon Academy is more than just a school. It’s a 10-year program for students from historically under-resourced communities, catalyzed by a transformational “Beacon Year” between 8th and 9th grade. This gap year is designed to prepare highly motivated students to succeed in top-tier high schools, colleges, and ultimately, fulfilling careers. Beyond academics, Beacon supports its students with a variety of resources including financial assistance, college and career guidance, care packages, and a powerful alumni network. Their mission is rooted in advancing educational equity and closing the opportunity gap by making a long-term commitment and investment in its students.
After my Beacon year, I enrolled in The Willison Northampton High School, where I received continuous support from Beacon Academy. They took the time to visit me on campus and removed any barriers to help me thrive academically. As a student at Emmanuel College, they provided a strong network of support, with resume guidance and job opportunities. Once I graduated from Simmons University with a dual master degree in Social Work and Business Administration, Beacon Academy helped me find my career path in Human Resources within the life science industry through networking opportunities. I was truly able to reach my full potential on my professional journey with the support of Beacon Academy every step of the way.
After everything Beacon Academy has done for me, I am excited to have the opportunity to give back. I am proud to volunteer as a Beacon Academy Ambassador, supporting the needs of students and alumni by advocating for resources and career networking opportunities.
I initially introduced PROMETRIKA to Beacon Academy through a volunteer event called “Swap It.” PROMETRIKA donated interview attire and winter jackets to Beacon students in need. These donations helped prepare students for high school tours and summer job interviews.
In alignment with the PROMETRIKA with a Purpose Initiative, we continue to support Beacon Academy’s incredible work by participating as a corporate Sponsor in their Spring Celebration, one of Beacon’s biggest fundraising and networking events. This event includes an interactive art experience with delicious refreshments, student and alumni speakers and a special prescreening of the new Beacon Academy film. PROMETRIKA is proud to show our support for Beacon’s vision of inclusion, equity, and diversity.
PROMETRIKA stands as a community partner with Beacon Academy, and we look forward to participating in more future volunteer opportunities, not only as sponsors but as volunteers, mentors, and advocates.
I am a living testimony of what it looks like to excel to the highest potential with the support from Beacon’s long-term commitment and investment. If you’ve never heard of Beacon Academy before, I encourage you to take a closer look. It’s more than just a program — it’s a promise to invest in the next generation of leaders and foster talent while spearheading the change we need in this world.
